Libel and Social Media: Yet Another Love Story

I may be running out of puns on the name of Courtney Love, but her odyssey as a pioneer as a defendant in libel suits based on social media continues.

Just a few weeks after Love won what is recognized as the first Twitter libel ("twibel") trial in an American court, the Hollywood Esq. blog reports that a California trial court judge has rejected Love's attempt to get another libel suit against her, this one based on a Pintrest post and comments on the Howard Stern Show, dismissed.

So, as the usage of social media continues to permeate American society, the libel suits based on these new media continue to come into the courts. The second libel trials involving Twitter and Pintrest will likely not get as much attention, particularly if the defendant isn't named Courtney Love.
